Funchal Cooking Class: local recipes at the Chef’s table
There are flavours best understood when they pass through our own hands. In this Funchal Cooking Class, Madeiran cuisine is presented in a simple, approachable, hands-on and delicious way. In a relaxed atmosphere throughout, each participant will benefit from the attentive guidance of a local chef, whose hallmark of excellence defines this experience.
Born in Madeira and deeply connected to the island’s produce, the chef guides the experience step by step, sharing techniques, details, secrets of the archipelago and small stories that offer a deeper understanding of the traditions that join us at the table. The freshness of the Atlantic lies at the heart of the session, with a fish dish prepared using ingredients delivered fresh to the island each day, produce that continues to shape Madeira’s gastronomic identity.
The meal begins with clams à Bulhão Pato, a dish that brings the freshness of the sea to the table. This is followed by the iconic black scabbard fish fillets, served with rich tomato rice and a fresh salad. To finish on a sweeter note, guests will enjoy the famous local banana flambéed with Madeira wine and served with ice cream.
